Surgery Recovery and Thanks for Clean Pathology

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your support and positive thoughts with my surgery and recovery- they are so much appreciated! Your encouragement really helps during these tough times!

I had my post op appointment yesterday and things are going very well from a physical healing standpoint. The surgeon said my incisions are healing well. This is definitely easier than the last surgery from a physical recovery standpoint and I’m very grateful for that! I’ve been able to go for some slow walks nearly every day and so that is a good sign.

The other thing I’m really grateful for is that we got the pathology results back from all the organs they removed and there was not any cancer in anything that was removed so that’s also great news!

The struggle right now is that my insomnia and anxiety have returned. It’s really hard not sleeping well and while it’s better than it was the last time, it’s still not great at all. I started one of the sleep medications last night at the recommendation of one of my doctors and it helped a little bit, but we’ll have to see if I need to add the other one back in which I really don’t want to do. I’m grateful my surgeon is attentive to this and I see some of my other doctors next week so we’ll see what they recommend. (Therapist this week as well.)

The anxiety is also really hard. I don’t know why I seem to react this way after surgery but apparently I do. I’m trying to trust that it will be ok, it got better last time and I’m sure it will again but I’m really sad about having to go through this again; it’s distressing and difficult.

Not much else to report here, I’m trying to rest, heal, and recover. Patience isn’t my strong point on all this, I want to feel better now, but I’m trying to be patient and offer myself some grace here. Thank you for all your care and support, it means so much!

  1. Kathryn,
I’m glad to hear your post surgery is going well, and that the pathology was clear. Quite a load off for sure.
I pray for you to get through this healing journey soon and find peace in your mind of minds so that you can truly rest and recover. Nothing worse than not sleeping well – ?. Rest assured you are not alone in this. I send you my best energy for health and peace and await to hear of your complete recovery.
You are on my weekly rosary list and will keep you in prayer.
    Take care
    Karl

Congrats on the successful surgery and clean pathology!

We’re sure you’ll be able to get through the recovery rough patch, you are strong and diligent.

  3. I am happy happy to read this! Post surgery anxiety and depression is something my neurologist friend has discussed with me several times. I have read many scholerly articles on it, but this simplistic one resonated – #2 especially – because I felt really down after my cataract suregeries, even though they were very successful.

I like to think about “resetting the clock on my range” – and I hope this passes quickly for you. Much love, Kathryn!
