Surgery Done!

Hi Everyone! Mike here…

First I want to thank you for all of your well wishes and support you have expressed for Kathryn’s surgery.

The surgery was completed today and lasted about 10 hours not including the pre-op activities or the post-op recovery.

I got to see her after she was moved to her room and she was awake and talkative. Her throat was sore from the breathing tube and she is pretty tired. Her spirits are good though because the surgery went so well and it’s over!

She will be discharged on Saturday and rest over the next few days but there are exercises that they want her to start doing soon. Next week she will the plastic surgeon for a checkup and then see the other surgeon the week after. Recovery is expected to take 8 weeks.

I spoke to both surgeons after they completed their portions and everything went exactly as they had planned. Kathryn tolerated the long procedure and the anesthesia well. Along with the breast tissue, they removed about 4 lymph nodes, including the sentinel node. These along with the breast tissue have been sent to pathology to determine if there is any active cancer and if any of the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes. Pathology results will likely come next week. Fingers crossed for a pathologic complete response (PCR) meaning all the cancer cells are dead.

Thank you again for all of your support! You are all awesome and the support really made a difference.
